Clayton High School
Bands and Ensembles
Welcome to
Clayton High School! The transition from middle school
to high school is one of the biggest steps in your educational journey.
Over the next few months you will be overwhelmed with information about
your future. As you consider this information keep this in mind:
- In 2001 students across
the country who participated in a band class scored higher on the SAT than
students who did not participate in band. Reported scores were an average of
57 points higher on Verbal and 41 points higher on math. College-Bound Seniors
National Report: Profile of SAT Program Test Takers. Princeton, NJ: The College
Entrance Examination Board, 2001
- "The arts
make better math and science students, enhance spatial intelligence
in newborns, and...are a compelling solution to teen violence.
Michael Greene, Recording Academy President and CEO at the
42nd Annual Grammy Awards, February 2000
- The College
Board identifies the arts as one of the six basic academic subjects
students need in order to succeed in college.
Academic Preparation for College: What Students Need to Know and Be Able
to Do, 1983 [still in use], The College Board, New York
- Music is designated
a (core academic subject) in the 'No Child Left Behind Act.' No
Child Left Behind Act of 2002, Title IX, Part A, Sec. 9101 (11
)
So the only question left to ask is, “Where do I sign up?” The answer is
simple. We will have an informational meeting in the band room at Clayton
High School in April. We will cover
many topics ranging from marching band vs. concert band to scheduling –
“How can I make time for band?” There will also be a presentation by the
Clayton High School Band Boosters. This organization is composed of parents
who help to make band an equal opportunity for every student at Clayton
High School. This is an informational meeting and everyone is welcome
to attend. We hope to see you there!
Thank you,
